If you haven't heard of The Sun newspaper, then you’ve likely been hiding under a rock for the past 50 years. The notorious publication (and allegedly Britain’s favourite daily) last year expanded into the online gaming world, releasing their online sportsbook, Sun Bets. Now, they turn their hand to another type of online gaming - their online casino, The Sun Casino.

The Sun Casino promotions have really seemed to evolve since the first time we reviewed the casino. Back then, there were maybe one or two promotions; we were delighted to see this has expanded nowadays. At the time of writing, we saw a cash giveaway tournament, a welcome bundle and game-specific bonuses.

There’s also a ‘Vegas’ promotions section, which offers a bit of a strange mix of everything casino and sports. Nevertheless, we also found some nice goodies there too. It really seems that there’s a lot going on at The Sun Casino, promotion-wise.

Range of Casino Games

Sun Casino has a great range of Playtech-powered games

The Sun Casino is powered exclusively by Playtech, meaning you know you're going to have access to a great range of games, well-optimised across all devices. True to form, there are:

  • 100+ slot games, including some exciting branded slots (American Dad, Superman, RoboCop)

  • 10 progressive jackpots, including the Batman series and the Age of the Gods series

  • All of Playtech's other popular video slot games, including Funky Fruits, Plenty O’ Fortune and Cat in Vegas

There’s a small array of table games on offer too:

  • Roulette: 10 variants, including American Roulette, Premium Roulette, French Roulette and 3D Roulette

  • Blackjack: 5 variants, including Perfect Blackjack, Blackjack Surrender and Unlimited Blackjack Live

  • Live Games: 6 of these, with all of the usual Live Blackjack and Live Roulette, as well as Live Casino Hold’Em and Live Baccarat

  • ‘Other’ table games: 2 - Jacks or Better and Caribbean Stud Poker

Other Offerings

The Sun also has a sportsbook, The Sun Bets

The Sun Casino has a very well-considered and well-received sports betting site too - The Sun Bets. They’ve also expanded to add the increasingly popular ‘Vegas’ section.

Software and Graphics

The Sun Casino's games are powered exclusively by Playtech

Playtech’s the name of the game here at The Sun Casino, and that means quality and reliability. It also means that players get to enjoy a massive back catalogue, including such gems as the progressive-filled Age of the Gods series, not to mention popular slot games including White King, Cat Queen, Halloween Fortune and Mr Cash Back.

While we’re suckers for all things Playtech, some players could be partially miffed that there’s no Mega Moolah or Starburst action here, due to the lack of Microgaming or NetEnt games available. We say: there are worse things in life to be concerned about, and that Playtech games do the job just fine, thank you very much.

In fact, strange as it may sound, we’ve always held a little soft spot for Playtech’s table games suite, which we think is nicely stocked and plays really well across all devices.

In fact, it's a good as time as any to mention how nicely the software - games, banking options et al - streams across different OS and devices. We occasionally have problems with other software providers’ games on our smartphones and tablets (and in one instance we’ll never forget, a Mac OS), but we’ve always admired how light the Playtech software is on our devices - and how they don't ‘eat’ the internet either.

The Sun Casino also has a pair of really nicely-designed and optimised apps available for Android and iOS devices.

Extra Value

The Sun Casino, perhaps unsurprisingly for ‘Britain’s favourite’, is exclusively UK-oriented, and accepts only UK players. This means everything is much more targeted to those patriotic Brits among us, who live for all things The Sun and all things British. It’s a bit like a British in-joke.

Loyalty or VIP Programme

The Sun Casino does have a ‘VIP Club’... which is mentioned absolutely nowhere on the site itself, and for good reason. It turns out it's invitation-only, and is a bit mysterious.

Once we asked around a bit, it seems that the VIP Club gives lucky, invited players access to ‘a range of exclusive online and offline offers’. We’d love to know more about what these might be… but we haven't been invited to join the club (yet).

Deposit and Withdrawal Methods

As with our last review of The Sun Casino, we were - and remain - disappointed with the surprising lack of deposit options on offer. You can also have only one card registered to your account at a time.

Customer Support

Hidden away in the sidebar, the 'Help Centre’ link leads you to a dedicated minisite complete with an in-depth FAQ section divided into the most common search topics.

There’s live chat available 24/7, which when we tried it was answered quickly and our query was dealt with professionally and swiftly. Support is available in English only. There are also three landline numbers available, which are manned between 7am - 11pm, 7 days a week. These comprise of a free UK landline number, an international UK landline number with a +44 prefix and an Ireland-based number. There’s also a 24/7-manned email address and a dedicated Twitter handle - @SunBetsHelp.

Who Can Play?

As mentioned above, The Sun Casino is open only to UK players.

The Sun Casino is licensed by the UK Gambling Commision.

Bottom Line

Whatever you might think about The Sun newspaper (yes, we hear you, Liverpool), no one can deny that this is a nice little addition to the UK online casino market. The Sun Casino plays nicely, has a solid range of Playtech games and features some really nice promotions - and it seems to be getting better each time we look at it! For such a young casino, this is a hearty surprise - the ability to grow and improve. We’re excited to see where this growth-kick takes them next: check out The Sun Casino for yourself, and get playing today!
